The Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA) is working to land astronauts on the moon by 2029 and is even designing a vehicle with Toyota to explore the lunar surface. L.A.’s Griffith Observatory is hosting a series of events to mark the Apollo 11 mission, including a 25-telescope star party and several screenings of the movie “Apollo 11.” From July 13 to July 24, visitors can also learn about the significance of the six lunar missions and “track” the Apollo 11 mission at exhibits detailing where the crew was each day of the historic eight-day journey.

The mission, dubbed Apollo 11, was the climax of the Apollo program, which pushed human spaceflight forward faster than ever before.
