embraer 145 seating

United flies 1 versions of Embraer ERJ-145. Plane was relatively small, if you're over 6ft tall you will bump your head and very limited leg room...other than that flight was smooth and fast, (30 min early), my opinion is these type plans shouldn't be as expensive as larger planes, you pay all this money to be cramped with no room. the legroom is okay for a 10 year old i was 10 when i flew on this flight and am only 4' 9" 110 pounds so i didnt have to wedge in. 2014/04/11 for Seat 1A, on No frills, no nothing on this plane. Seat 10 D is a standard Economy Class seat.
All of these seats with the exception of the emergency exit rows are uncomfortable. 1A is directly next to the main exit, because the plane is so small the cowling around the jetway rubs against the window next to this seat and it is effectively frosted with scratches.

United calls 18C a "Premium Economy" seat.

Also there is no overhead bin on the left side of the plane (they start above row 3 on the right side of the plane) so there is no overhead bin and no under-seat storage for this seat.

For a 2-3 hour flight this single seat is ok. These planes are a joke and United should be ashamed to use them on such long flights. There is also limited under seat storage at all window seats due to the curvature of the fuselage. Extremely loud in this row of the aircraft, even my Bose Quiet Comfort II noise cancelling headphones couldn't mute the noise. All I could do is count the minutes until I was off this plane.
This type is used on short-haul domestic segments and many passengers enjoy the 1-2 layout for comfort and personal space.

When in this seat, you are very close to the crew, and it does provide a more personal flying experince because the crew make an effort to get to know in this seat. An added benefit was the flight path, coming in over Gary and straight up Lake Michigan with tremendous night views and an almost-eerie silence as the plane slowed.
