Eckert was able to get good reliability by running the tubes at one-quarter power. All thanks to the ENIAC! It finally got its rightful recognition in 1996, fifty years to the day after the government revealed its existence. Vacuum tubes gave way to transistors, and in turn led to smaller, faster, cheaper computers.

As the branch of the military responsible for calculating the tables, the Ballistics Research Laboratory (BRL) became interested after hearing about Mauchly's research at the Moore School.
